I moved to Leith to be nearer my family and to help look after my two young grandchildren. I think that Leith Community Centre is a fantastic local resource, and I hope to use my experience in community development work to make it an even more successful centre in the future. Before my retirement, I worked with a wide range of residents’ groups, charities and voluntary organisations to help people to develop new services, write business plans, raise funds and undertake evaluations.  I have also helped residents to acquire and manage community buildings, set up community development trusts and to have more say in what happens in their area by creating local neighbourhood plans. I enjoy living in Leith, with its friendliness, its welcome from a mix of old and new residents, its independent businesses and its industrial heritage. I am keen that we keep all these things. I am a trustee of a historic ship – the SS Explorer – moored in Leith harbour, and I also volunteer with a number of local gardening projects. As a Trustee of Leith Community Centre Association, I am beginning to make good relationships with other local projects and centres. I will be pleased to talk to anyone about how we might work together to create a better Leith!
